内容简介

In this talk, a few FSI problems will be studied with both computational and analytical methods. In particular, parametric instabilities will be studied with Bolotin’s Approach and Monodromy Matrix. Physical insights will be derived from the instability diagram and the transition points for buckling and flutter instabilities. Some suppression mechanisms are also presented for the reduction of flow-induced vibrations.

Dr. Sheldon (Xiaodong) Wang is a Professor in McCoy School of Engineering, College of Science and Mathematics at Midwestern State University. He received his B.S. in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (1988), and his M.S. in Ocean Engineering (1993) and Ph.D. in Applied Mechanics (1995) from MIT. Subsequently, he has worked in the Institute of Paper Science and Technology (currently, Georgia Tech), Polytechnic University (currently, New York University), and NJIT as a faculty member before joining MSU in 2009. Dr. Wang served as the Chair of McCoy School of Engineering from 2009 to 2015. Dr. Wang’s research interests include computational fluid and solid mechanics, fluid-solid interactions, quantitative modeling of biological systems, and dynamical systems. Prof. Wang is the author of over 40 journal paperswith a total citation number over 1022 and h-index 15. He is also the author of a research monograph “Fundamentals of Fluid-Solid Interactions – Analytical and Computational Approaches” published by Elsevier Science in 2008. Dr. Wang has served as reviewer and editorial board member for National Science Foundation, US Department of Agriculture, US Department of Energy, MIT Conference on Computational Fluid and Solid Mechanics, World Congress of Computational Mechanics, and International Conference on Computational Structures Technology along with many technical journals. Dr. Wang was selected by Polytechnic University as one of the five founding Othmer Junior Faculty Fellows in 2002. Dr. Wang also received Award of Appreciation and Certificate of Appreciation from Commissioer of Higher Education in Texas, Raymund Paredes in 2011 and 2013 for his leadership role as the Mechanical Engineering Committee Chair in the Tuning Oversight Council for Engineering for Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board in 2011 and 2012. Dr. Wang has served as the Director of the MSU YES camps from 2010 to 2019. Dr. Wang passed FE and PE exams in 2013 and 2017 respectively and is currently a registered Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Texas.
